    ZOA Corals – Soft Corals

Often referred to as soft corals due to them not having a skeleton, they have a central mouth that helps them feed.  Zoa’s are sometimes referred to as an easy coral to keep, although some Zoa’s are trickier than others.  A helpful tip is to start them in low light and then start to move them into the light, generally at the bottom of your tank.

Another reason to start them in low light and flow is that they firmly get their foot down and adapt to where they have been positioned in the tank, once they are settled it is good to let them have more flow and this helps it keep free from detritus

In general, Zoa are a good beginner coral, as they come in different colours and patterns, they are not overly fussed on high nutrition levels and they can over thrive in higher nitrate and phosphate levels unlike other types of corals

They also need medium randomized water flow ranging from low to medium along with low to medium lighting depending on the species
